BELLA DANCE STUDIOS

Yellowknife, NT

2010

This project began with the intent of turning a pre-engineered building into two dance studios. We integrated half-inch tempered glass walls with brightly accented bulkheads to create an airy, light-filled space for this building dedicated to the arts.

Acoustic fabric was incorporated to create acoustic isolation between the studios and to facilitate audible instruction by the staff. Sprung floors make up the flooring in both studios with a marley vinyl flooring layer on the surface, which benefits both the dancers' bodies and the acoustics of the studios.

The studio also features a shop and reception counter, waiting area, washroom, and storage facilities. The reception area was designed so that one staff member could monitor activity in both of the studios.
