ÉCOLE ALLAIN ST-CYR

Yellowknife, NT

1999

The École Allain St-Cyr is a state-of-the-art facility, designed to meet current and evolving educational and cultural needs. As the only French-first-language school in the Northwest Territories, it is only appropriate that the École Allain St-Cyr is modeled spatially after the old cities of French Canada. Interaction in the space is fostered through an emulation of squares and narrow streets, which encourage impromptu meeting and conversation outside of the formal curriculum.

The school uses a gravity ventilation system, the first of its kind in Canada. It was selected as one of the most innovative schools in Canada in Architecture magazine.
