FORT GOOD HOPE OFFICE

Fort Good Hope, NT

2000

Completed in 2003, the building is 900m2 in total floor area. It features a number of unique architectural elements, such as the sculptural skylights on the wings, and the conical boardroom skylight. The main entry flows through a large lobby to two separate reception areas, which serve as informal gathering space for the community. The central core of the building contains all of the shared facilities such as the washrooms, the boardroom and the building’s mechanical and electrical equipment. This allows the building to expand to the east and west without disrupting the building’s core systems. The building borrows from the rich cultural and historical traditions of Fort Good Hope, and is inspired by the teepee, smoke houses and bold forms of the ramparts of the Mackenzie River.
