An oasis during the long northern winters, this pool is a major addition to an existing recreation centre. It is a warm, colourful, animated space, which includes a lap pool, waterslides, whirlpool, sauna, and change rooms. Some of the design features include a pool edge with no freeboard to minimize wave action in the lap pool during competition. Structural insulated panels were used as the exterior walls, due to their excellent thermal performance and savings of $1.2 million over conventional construction. The project was completed on time and on budget, opening its doors in January 2007.
