Yellowknife, NT

The Northwest Territories Teachers’ Association (NWTTA), with their main offices located in downtown Yellowknife, required additional office spaces to meet the demands of a growing staff. An addition was planned with the intent that the existing operation could continue while construction took place. The system was to be installed while the teachers were off in the summer.

The space features abundant natural light and natural wood veneer exterior panels, which were used for the first time in the North.

While the addition is a departure from the surrounding architecture of a primarily residential street, its geometry and modest entry serves to harmonize it with its context, while its material expression distinguishes it as the headquarters of the NWTTA.
